Pokémon GO players are clearly still logging in every day after Niantic and The Pokémon Company revealed today that players had logged a collective 8.7 billion kilometres (5.4 billion miles) walked since the game launched in July this year.
That is a lot of kilometres, covering almost 30 return trips from Earth to the Sun. Part of the game’s initial success was in its ability to promote getting outside and being active as a part of its core gameplay and clearly it has made some impressive strides in that regard.

Can’t fathom just how far that is? It is more than 200,000 trips around the Earth, more than three times the distance that NASA’s Juno spacecraft had travelled when it reached Jupiter in July, and it would take a commercial airliner more than 1,000 years to cover the same distance!
Five months and nearly 9,000,000,000km later and there have been over 88 billion Pokémon caught in Pokémon GO. That equates to more than half a billion Pokémon every single day around the world!
Pokémon GO might not be enjoying the boom that it did on release but clearly there is still plenty of content and fun to be had in the world’s most popular augmented reality mobile game.
