Blizzard has released their new Overwatch map Oasis today after a month of public testing across all platforms went smoothly. The new map, which will centre around three control points, represents a step forward for Overwatch gameplay in many respects, including the way players interact with the environment.
The new map will showcase the addition of jump pads and traffic. Yes, that is traffic, as in cars on a road which can be very dangerous if you are not careful - so make sure to look both ways before you cross!
Oasis is centred around a city founded by scientists in the Arabian Desert and has a similar aesthetic style to the Numbani map. Blizzard’s official description of their new map is as follows:
“Researchers and academics from around the region came together to found a city dedicated to scientific progress without restraints — a monument to human ingenuity and invention. The city and its inhabitants are governed by the Ministries, a collection of brilliant minds who possess many secrets that have attracted the interest of powerful organisations from around the world.”
It has been a busy festive season for Overwatch. A cavalcade of new loot from Christmas loot boxes, an overhaul to Symmetra, and now a new map mean that Overwatch is now confirming its status as the Game of the Year in 2016.
