Outlast 2, the sequel to the hit survival horror game Outlast, has had its release window pushed back until Q1 of 2017. According to its Facebook page, developer Red Barrels released the following statement.
“We had to make a difficult decision recently. After weighing our options we’ve decided to postpone Outlast 2’s release until Q1 of 2017.
We want you to know that we listen to your feedback, we see your excitement and we know you care about our work. Our mission as an indie studio is to deliver to you the best, most terrifying, most fulfilling experiences possible. That’s why we’re taking just a little bit more time to make sure our vision for Outlast 2 is in no way compromised and is the experience you deserve.
This is not the type of news we ever want to deliver, but we are so fully committed to the world we’ve built and to our awesome community that we could not, in good conscience, release a game who’s limits haven’t been tested to the extreme.
Thank you for understanding. We promise Outlast 2 will scare the crap out of you.“
Outlast was a critical darling, releasing first for Microsoft Windows in early September 2013, followed by a successful PS4 release in February 2015. Set in a psychiatric hospital within the mountainous region of Lake County, Colorado, Outlast follows Miles Upshur, a journalist, who investigates a tip off about human experimentation taking place there. What follows is a series of jump scares, as Miles desperately tries to flee the hospital after finding answers he wished he hadn’t. The game scored well with most reviewers, with Metacritic currently having it rated at a solid 80%. The sequel promises a new location, as well as all new characters.

This isn’t surprising news in today’s gaming world. I just hope it’s worth the extra wait for fans. That being said, I still haven’t played the first game. Should I?

Im personally not a fan of survival horror games, but I remember watching the review for this on Good Game, and Australian Gaming TV show, and being impressed. I actually wanted to play it, but I know I wont. Long answer short, if you love survival horror games, get onto it!
