Speculation has started over a new ‘feature’ in Destiny. Bungie has launched a new website known as Owl Sector. The site seems to give a report on the global ‘infections’ of Brilliance 3.2, Glory 2.1, Splendor 2.6, Magnificence 2.0, and Fortitude 3.1. Players have reportedly been infected in-game via a few different methods. Some of which are believed to be;
- picking up an infected player’s ultimate orbs
- being melee killed by an infected player
- killing an infected player
- random infection upon loading into a game
Speculators believe that the infection starts via an owl_sector twitch account infecting Destiny streamers, posting in their chat-rooms saying “Override reported. Filed for investigation. Await further instructions, Guardian.” Then following up minutes later with “We’ve detected an unidentified foreign intrusion into your systems, Guardian. Stay calm. We will investigate.” Upon ‘infection’, players received buffs to XP and reputation gains, with the in-game description reading “…has been transmitted to you. Increased XP and reputation gains for the duration of the Transmission.”
One redditor posted his theory as a comment in this post.
“As it stands I think the website is the old records of what happened to the iron lords. They got infected like us but couldn’t control it cause they are not born of light. We know they sealed away the threat, the logs say we must quarantine it. In the trailer you see them fighting flying sworms of something. It could be this infection. We know siva is nano tech as well. Now we are getting infected and it’s giving the same buff they fell for..then maybe if enough of us are infected it becomes a hive mind of nano tech and turns into siva and that is the start of rise of iron…this is the prolog before RoI launches…” -mikedr7711
What do you think the owl_sector situation could be? Could Bungie be building interest for the imminent Rise of Iron launch? Or do you believe it to be something totally different? Let us know in the comments below.
