Top 10 Movie Games

Today we are going to look at Top 10 Movie Games:

10 - Lion King - Sega Megadrive/Genesis - 1994

The Lion King was one of my favourite movie games on the Sega at the time, it had a well-done balance between platforming and action.  Not only was it the gameplay that was the highlight but the soundtrack also accompanied all the levels and copied it from the movie to perfection, it still gets stuck in my head today.  That is why it has made it to number 10 in the Top 10 Movie Games list.

9 - Batman Begins - Xbox, Gamecube, Gameboy Advance, Playstation 2 - June 14th, 2005

Batman Begins tied in with the movie release and surprisingly it wasn’t a bad Batman game in the slightest.  You were the Batman, use your stealth and speed to take enemies out swiftly, use your strength to defeat the most troublesome foes.  Everything we expected from Batman was included in this title.  Movie games can get notoriously slated in the world of gaming but Batman Begins outdid the curse of movie game titles so much so that players wanted a sequel to it but never received one.

8 - King Kong - Playstation 2, Xbox 360, PSP, Xbox, PC, Gamecube, Gameboy Advance, Nintendo DS - November 17th, 2005

King Kong the video game made it to my Top 10 Movie Games list because it blended a decent first person shooter game in with some adrenaline-fueled King Kong battles with T-Rexes and featured a few platforming elements which all mixed together perfectly to keep the game from going stale.

7 - Lego Star Wars Complete Saga - Playstation 3, Xbox 360, Wii, PC, iOS, Android, Nintendo DS - November 6th, 2007

The Lego games franchise keeps on growing but the Lego movie game genre started off with The Lego Star Wars franchise.  The Lego Star Wars Complete Saga offered at first episodes 1, 2 and 3 in which we would revisit moments from the movie and play it from start to finish.  The guys at TT Games threw in some humour and some action packed sequences and it all led up to the huge list of Lego Games they have released today.  Who didn’t want to battle Darth Maul in the end of The Phantom Menace?

6 - The Chronicles of Riddick Assault on Dark Athena - Xbox 360, PC, Playstation 3 - April 7th, 2009

The Chronicles of Riddick was launched in 2009 and also came with the original game Escape from Butcher Bay with upgraded nice and shiny new graphics.  A game where stealth and action blended together to deliver a real treat to fans of the series.  Also to accompany the addictive gameplay, a blend of stealth and action were two full story lines that delved deeper into the story of Riddick.

5 - Ghost Busters The Video Game - Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC Wii, Playstation 2, PSP, Nintendo DS - June 16th, 2009

As a fan of the ORIGINAL Ghost Busters film (yes I highlighted original for a reason…) a new game was quite a surprise.  Written by Dan Akroyd and Harold Ramis, we got to experience another Ghost Busters story through the eyes of a new rookie.  With the original cast coming back and some unique gameplay using the Ghost Busting equipment, it was an absolute treat and I wish it had been made into a movie.

4 - X-Men Wolverine Origins - PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii, PSP, PlayStation 2, Nintendo DS, PC - May 1st, 2009

While the movie was terrible, the game was a really fun hack and slash with some really unique elements.  My favourite thing to do was make Wolverine get damaged as much as possible and walk around as a skeleton and then watch the regeneration process take place.  The hack and slash elements were really smooth and there were some platforming moments to change the formula up a little bit, it to me felt like one of the best marvel movie games which is why it made it to my Top 10 Movie Games list.

3 - Spider-Man 2 - PlayStation 2, PC, Xbox, Gamecube, GBA, N-gage, PSP - June 28th, 2004

Spider-Man 2 the video game was based loosely on the film and spun off to have its own story.  The highlight of this game was the web swinging.  The web swinging system alone is enough to put it on the Top 10 Movie Games list but the whole game itself was a really fun action game.  The story was good, the fighting was really addictive and exploring New York City in full 3D was a real treat.  If only they’d use the same web-swinging mechanics in all the other Spider-Man Games.

2 - The Warriors - PlayStation 2, PlayStation 4, PSP, Xbox, PlayStation 3 - October 17th, 2005

The Warriors is an action packed game that featured huge environments to brawl in with your enemies while you try to get back to your home turf after being falsely accused of murder.  Fans could relive all of the movie moments including scenes that were set three months before the movie.  This is why it makes number 2 in my Top 10 Movie Games list.

1 - Golden Eye 007 - Nintendo 64 - August 25th, 1997

Golden Eye 007 is still widely regarded as a revolutionary First Person Shooter (FPS) game.  The main reason was its split-screen function, with which people still whip out their Nintendo 64’s and play to this very day.  The multiplayer was developed at the last second for Golden Eye and I’m sure they are glad they did.  This is why Golden Eye is my number 1 in my Top 10 Movie Games list.

Hello I'm Jake and I've gamed since the early 90's, my first console being the Mega Drive. My favourite genre has to be Role Playing Games where I can shape my own characters life. They must have beards, makes me feel like a pirate. I in the past was a Falconer and gained an amazing owl from the job, though I still haven't received my invitation to Hogwarts school of Witchcraft and Wizardry but I remain hopeful, until then I write for Blotgaming about all things gaming.
